Metal-complex dyes have low water solubility so the solubility decreases from 1:1 metal-complex type to 1:2 complex type – most are of monoazo type and are derived through complexion of selective metals with acid dyes possessing O-O chelating sites such as –OH, –COOH, –NH2, etc. The dye molecule will typically be a monoazo structure containing additional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl or amino groups, which are capable of forming strong coordination complexes with transition metal ions.
